Bonding Additive

  • Use with Damtite Powder Waterproofers
  • Add to Patch, Grout, and Resurface Mixes
  • Increases adhesion and strength
  • Provides long lasting repair

A high-solid, water-resistant, acrylic resin designed as an admixture for thin Portland cement coatings, concrete repair/resurface powder mixes, thin set mortar, tile grout, plaster and stucco. It improves the adhesion, durability and resistance to chemicals & acid by reducing the surface permeability. Excellent additive to Damtite Powder Waterproofers, thin-set cements, grouts and packaged concrete mixes. Ideal to improve the adhesion of coatings over smooth non-porous surfaces, like poured concrete, glazed tile and sandstone. Prevents separation and cracking; increases cohesion, tensile, compressive and flexural strength. Will not yellow or discolor the coating. Use for interior/exterior, above/below grade projects.

Insure surface to be coated is sound and clean. Remove any dust, dirt, mildew, oil, grease or loose materials. Etch/neutralize salt-like, alkaline deposit (efflorescence) or remove release-oil or curing agent with Damtite Concrete Cleaner or a mild acid and rinse well. Dampen area to be coated or patched with clean water, but do not leave puddles or standing water.

Shake well before using.

Important: When replacing water with this product, never exceed the total quantity of liquid recommended by manufacturer of the mix.

Ratio with Damtite Powder Waterproofers or other powder waterproofing coating brands:

  • Bare non-porous or poured concrete surfaces: 1 part Additive to 1 part water
  • Sandstone, tile or pre-painted surfaces: 100% Additive; no water

Ratio with thin-set repairs 3/8” (10mm) max:

  • 1 part Additive to 1 part water Ratio with thicker toppings or grouts:
  • 2 parts Additive to 1 part water

Ratio with thicker toppings or grouts:

  • 2 parts Additive to 1 part water

Tips: When applying a new coating to smooth surfaces: Apply a thin primer film of full-strength Additive with paint brush; apply mix within 15 minutes when primer film is tacky. Otherwise, if primer film hardens, a reapplication may be needed. When applying a new thin patch or resurfacing: First apply a “slurry” coat, consisting of 2 parts Additive to 1 part manufacturer’s powder and brush onto dampened surface. When tacky to touch, apply the patching material or resurface coat.

When rapid drying expected due to high temperatures or wind, cover patch or coating with wet burlap or similar material to retain moisture for slower cure. This Additive will not affect curing or set time of most products. Refer to manufacturer’s label for normal cure time, normally 24-48 hrs. Do not apply finishes or patches below 50°F (10°C) or when temperature expected to fall below 40°F (4°C) within 24 hours. Any deviation from mixing proportions or lesser quantity of Additive could cause inadequate performance.

Clean all tools and equipment immediately with soap and water. Cured material may require scraping and cleaning materials for removal. Product can be permanently damaged if frozen. Store at normal temperatures with lid secured. Dispose of unused or damaged product in accordance with federal, state and local requirements.
